Statement of the Icelandic Medical Association on poor conditions of refugees in Europe and Covid-19
A great threat to human lives is posed to all by the Covid-19 pandemic. Refugees in refugee camps are among the most vulnerable people in the world to its devastating effect. The Icelandic Medical Association urges all governments around Europe to improve refugees living conditions and safety as soon as possible. For each nation it is a test of its humanity and civilization how it responds to the dire need of those who are the most vulnerable, are homeless and stateless. Doctors urge governments of European states to join in effort to protect refugees just as their own citizens from the pandemic. Respect for humanity has no nationality. Preventive health care, medical treatment and palliation have no state of citizenship.
The Icelandic Medical Association urges the Icelandic government to offer increased assistance to refugees in Europe and to make itself valuable in the upcoming humanitarian aid that lies ahead.
